Create Your Own Milk Glass

For many years, I've always received a small vase of roses or assorted flowers for Valentine's Day. I've kept two of these vases (photo: left). I don't have the heart to get rid of them; however, I don't have the desire for them as is.

While I was at the antique faire last weekend, I saw quite a few milk glass pieces that were beautiful. Last night I searched online for ideas to re-vamp vases, and I came across the craft idea below:

I thought that this was a great idea to replicate the milk glass effect, and requires little supplies - a vase and non oil-based paint. I'm thinking of trying my vases in a pastel yellow or blue. Hopefully I'll get the paint today or tomorrow since I'm anxious to see how these turn out.

Antique Hunting

Knowing that I love antiques and vintage-flare, a friend of mine (who also appreciates a good antique) told me about a local antique faire. I attended my first one with her last weekend, and although it was outdoors while cold, windy and rainy, I felt like a kid in a candy store with all of the neat finds available. To limit my spending, I took only $20.00 with me. I figured that would be enough since I knew what I was hunting for - earrings, broaches, buttons, anything that I could use as embellishments on my own jewelry creations.

I found a piece that I liked right away, but I didn't want to just buy the first thing to catch my attention, so I kept hunting. I finally decided to make my first purchase on a pair of clip-on earrings. I thought that the stone placement on the earrings was great to just use the earring as is, or maybe even take the stones apart and use them as individual accents.

By the time we got to the other end of the antique faire, many vendors were packing up shop due to the weather, and we didn't anticipate finding anything else of interest. However, our last stop was a table which had among other things - two boxes full of earrings, broaches, belt buckles & miscellaneous broken pieces. Jackpot! By the time I was done going through everything, I walked away with multiple items that I was excited to use in future projects. I guess that taught me to leave no corner unturned at faires such as these. You never know where you'll find your own treasure.

The Beginning

I have always been a creative person, and that creativity has evolved over the years. As many kids, it started out simply as drawing and coloring. Since then I have drawn clothing designs (even though I am no seamstress), written short stories & poems, made jewelry, shot and developed black and white photos, scrapbooked, and dabbled in card-making.

My creativity usually occured in spurts due to school, which took up a good part of my time. Now that I have been out of school for a while, I am hoping that my creativity can remain more constant since I am always thinking of new ideas . . . whether I actually create anything from them or not.
